“Renew and Refresh” was the theme selected for this year’s caregivers’ retreat held from 14th to 17th September 2008 (4 days 3 nights) at Vistana Hotel. The retreat was customized for full time caregivers from various Christian social ministries. We hope through motivational theme talks, workshops on Inner Healing, recreational activities, interaction and fellowship in Christ, all caregivers will be renewed, like the eagles raising up on wind again, flying higher and further!
We thanked God for leading 35 full time caregivers from 20 caring organizations around the country to attend the camp. This was the first time HISTEAM has successfully coordinated with all Chinese Churches to sponsor and adopt full time Chinese speaking workers for such activity. We praised God that the camp fee for the caregivers were fully sponsored by the churches and it members who were on invitation by HISTEAM. As such, the participants required to pay only a nominal registration fees of RM50, thereafter was free.
Senior care givers were invited to share on the topic of “Renew & Refresh” for 3 consecutive nights in the camp. Such messages are very much relevant to our actual life and serving in caring ministries. Thus, our co-workers profited greatly from it. Every morning there is a special course on Inner Healing led by Rev Kok and his wife. It was an unforgettable learning experience. Many co-workers felt their feelings spoken accurately with the sharing of problems and challenges in caring ministries, such as brokenness, difficulties, misery, loneliness and bondage in their lives.
During the retreat, co-workers of House of Liang Shan , FGC Life-Link Community Care, Noah’s Ark Gospel Centre, Rumah Hope and Caring Old-folks had taken the opportunities to share their ministries. During the last night of feedback and interaction, the most touching sharing was by Sis Yap Khoon Chen . She has difficulties in expressing and speaking yet she bravely stepped forward to share her reviews of this retreat, and the group gave a round applaud. In the “heart to heart” segment, co-workers wrote their thoughts towards the personal and church who sponsored them. Bro Kok She Chern sang a song to encourage all to have faith of our God and march through this difficult path of serving together.
Many caregivers were absolutely delighted of what they had experienced, from regenerating encouragement from the messages to numerous programs, health checks, goodie bags, worships & praises that warmed their hearts. HIS team’s efforts and initiatives in conceptualizing this retreat camp were fully appreciated by the caregivers who happily returned with fulfilled body and spirit.
